Wayne Wittner

Wayne Edward Wittner, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on August 9, 2025, in Del Norte, Colorado. He was born on July 28, 1938, in El Dorado, Kansas, and lived a life dedicated to faith, family, and community.

Wayne served as the Pastor at the First Christian Church in Monte Vista from 1997 to 2020, where his passion for spiritual care brought comfort and inspiration to countless members of the community. A cherished chaplain for the Monte Vista Fire Department, Monte Vista Police Department, and San Luis Valley Regional Hospital in Alamosa, Wayne's commitment to serving others extended far beyond the walls of the church. He was proud of his service in the Marine Corps and often spoke of the importance of community and outreach.

In his younger years, Wayne dedicated time to coaching youth and was actively involved with the Police Athletic League in Denver. His spirit of service was evident in his role with the Monte Vista Kiwanis and his love for organizing the annual Monte Vista Veterans Day Parade. Wayne was particularly passionate about the Faith Hinkley Memorial Flag and cherished the connections made through community gatherings, especially those associated with Vacation Bible School, where he deeply invested in the lives of children.

Wayne is survived by his devoted wife Melody Wittner, his sons; Arthur Wayne (Cindy Imbraguglio) Wittner and Matthew Edward (Claudia) Wittner, his daughter Marcie Wittner and his treasured grandchildren; Joshua (Nicole) Wittner, Brent Wittner, Damon (Kat) Farham, Chris (Nic) Farnham, and Shawn (Micaiah) Farnham. He took immense pride in his great-grandchildren; Kaleigh, Madeline, Blake, Isaiah, Atalia, Sarai, Juliet, Peter, Quinn, and Kaiya, who were a source of endless joy for him. Wayne shared a special bond with his dear friend Lee Kechter and her children, Kristi Davies and the late Tim Kechter. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Cecil Wittner his brother Howard Wittner, and his sister Francis Johnson. Wayne also had a profound affection for his in-laws, especially his mother-in-law, Florence Bennett (deceased) as well as his sisters-in-law, Merrily Bennet (deceased), Harmony Bennett, and brother-in-law Tim Bennett.

Cremation has been chosen, and a Memorial Service will be held to celebrate Wayne's life on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the First Christian Church (Grace and Mercy Church) in Monte Vista.
