Virginia Goddard

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Virginia Sue Goddard after a struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Virginia, who was born on June 17, 1944, in Cullman, Alabama, transitioned to eternal rest on April 20, 2025, in Alamosa, Colorado, after a life defined by compassion, strength, and unwavering devotion, a life richly lived. She is survived by her devoted husband, Richard "Dick" Goddard; her beloved son, Timothy, her cherished daughter-in-law, Christie, and their son, her treasured grandson, Grey Goddard; her loving brother, Bill Crouch; and her dear sister, Mary McDonald. She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Lilly Crouch, a sister Bettye Holbert, and a beloved foster daughter Megan Holbert.

Virginia was a passionate educator whose dream of teaching began in her teenage years, inspired by the positive influence of her own teachers during a challenging childhood. Throughout her career in education and administration, she dedicated herself to shaping young minds and to mentoring young teachers starting their careers. She had a special dedication to helping middle-school-aged children, where her warmth and kindness made a profound impact. Many of her former students have remained in touch, testifying to the lasting impressions she made on their lives.

In 2002, Virginia and Dick moved to the picturesque San Luis Valley, where she served as principal at Alamosa High School and Antonito Middle School and High School before her retirement. Her strong Christian faith guided her actions, and she consistently demonstrated compassion toward others, especially those less fortunate. Known for her huge heart, Virginia was a beacon of love and support to everyone around her.

Virginia's ashes will be placed in the family monument in Alamosa Cemetery. A celebration of life memorial service will be held in honor of her at the Alamosa Senior Center at Cole Park, on June 5th at 2 pm. In place of flowers, please make any donations to Hospice del Valle, Alamosa, or to the Alzheimer's Association. To express condolences to the family, please visit www.mvmortuary.com

In grief, we will remember a woman whose impact will forever resonate in the hearts of those she touched, and whose spirit will live on through her family and the countless lives she influenced. Rest in peace, dear Virginia. Your legacy of love and compassion will never be forgotten.
