Steve Lawton

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steven Willard Lawton, a cherished member of our community, who departed this life on May 24, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on December 16, 1953, in Monte Vista, Colorado, Steve spent his entire life in the San Luis Valley, a place he truly loved.

A proud graduate of Monte Vista High School, Class of 1972, Steve continued his education at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. His early love for farming, shared with his father, laid the foundation for a life filled with hard work and creativity. As an entrepreneur, Steve wore many hats: he co-owned a landscaping business and a fencing business, and he excelled in construction and remodeling. His passion led him to own and operate Aspen Office Supply in Alamosa, Colorado, where his hard work and dedication transformed the business and the building itself into thriving office spaces. Though he briefly lived in Colorado Springs, working as General Manager for his sister and brother-in-law's business, his heart always belonged to the Valley.

Steve had a remarkable zest for life and an infectious enthusiasm, making friends wherever he went. He was known for his warm spirit and generosity, often embodying the saying, "Steve never knew a stranger." He found joy in the outdoor adventures Colorado offers, from water skiing and snow skiing to hiking and climbing the state's majestic fourteeners. More recently, he embraced paddle boarding, reveling in the beauty of nature with his beloved dog by his side.

Steve is lovingly remembered by his three sisters: Terri Pruett of Oro Valley, Arizona; Vicki Brown of Marana, Arizona; and Debra Klein of Monument, Colorado. He is also survived by two brothers, Geoffrey Lawton and Jeremy Lawton of Denver, Colorado. His family and friends will continue to carry his spirit with them always.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents Bradley and Marilyn Lawton

In honoring Steve's memory, there will not be a public service. However, a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date, where all who knew and loved him will gather to share stories, laughter, and tears, keeping his vibrant spirit alive in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers or donations, the family kindly invites you to celebrate Steve's life and the profound impact he had on all who knew him. May his love for the outdoors and for the people in his life continue to inspire us. To express condolences to the family, please visit www.mvmortuary.com
