Samuel Young, and his wife Sybille Young, lived in Salt Lake City from 1982 through 2019. During that time they made many friends, primarily through their activities at the Redeemer Lutheran Church.
As a long-time resident on this planet, Sam served in the U.S. Army in Germany, worked on the Colorado Trail, and volunteered many hours for the Uinta National Forest and for Redeemer Lutheran.
From 1948-1949, in Berlin, Sam helped unload Allied airplanes bringing in food, fuel, and medicines to West Berlin residents during the Berlin Airlift (also known as Operation Vittles.) He also served as a Military Policeman.
Sam met his future wife, Sybille Griese, during his service in Berlin. Eventually they married, moved to Ohio (Sam's home state), and had two daughters.
Sam spent his entire work career at the Fisher Body Division of General Motors in Columbus, Ohio.
In 1982 both Sam and Sybille retired and moved to Salt Lake City, where they happily spent the next 37 years.
Sam is survived by his wife of 72 years, Sybille, and daughters Christina Pearson (Ben) in Lander WY, Marianna in Monte Vista CO, nephew Jerry Nance in Ohio, and countless friends and relatives. Sam's parents and siblings pre-deceased him. He will be buried at the Home Lake Veteran's Center cemetery in Monte Vista, CO.
