Lt. Col. George H. Sewell Jr., USAF (Ret.), born January 18, 1936, passed away on September 24, 2026, at the age of 90. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, George was a USAF officer and fighter pilot, engineer, outdoorsman, and lifelong student whose life was marked by service, curiosity, adventure, and devotion to his family.

George served more than two decades in the U.S. Air Force, first as a B-47 navigator and later as a fighter pilot. He flew the F-102 in combat and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He later flew the SR-71 Blackbird as an aircraft commander and held flight test, safety, operations, staff, and command positions before retiring in 1981 as a lieutenant colonel.

George loved adventure and the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, and hunting, often with dogs, like Ole' Blue, by his side. He enjoyed fishing on his boat with friends. He was a Scoutmaster, Sunday School teacher, and served in local government.

George and Patsy shared 65 years of marriage, raising four boys and building a life filled with family and adventure. One memorable trip took them from Colorado to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, with their son Joel. George took great pride in his sons and treasured the time he spent with them and, later, with his grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife, Patsy; his sons, George Sewell III, Joel Sewell, and Patrick (Page) Sewell; his grandchildren, Nickolas (Janejira) Sewell, Courtney Sewell, Katherine Sewell, Emma Sewell, and Decker Sewell; his great-grandchildren, Jay Sewell and Jasmine Sewell; and his brother, William "Bill" (Carol Jo) Sewell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Katherine Sewell; his son, John Sewell; and his niece, Erin Sewell.

George will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his distinguished service and patriotism, his inquisitive mind, his love of adventure, and the many stories he collected and shared throughout his remarkable life.

Cremation was selected and A memorial service will be held at a later date.
