Obituary

Gary Lee Cross, a beloved father, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on December 13, 1946, in Mitchell, South Dakota to James and Cecilia Cross. Gary spent his life as a devoted family man and a dedicated worker. He resided in Moffat, Colorado since 2003.  He built a life that was marked by hard work, laughter, and love.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Gary had an adventurous spirit that carried him through life's journeys. He was self-employed as a welder and took great pride in his craft. Known for his strong work ethic, he believed in paying cash for everything and took pride in what he had accomplished through his own efforts. Gary's commitment to hard work extended beyond his profession; he even shared his skills by teaching welding at a college in Golden.

Gary was a true jokester and never knew a stranger, always ready with a story or a joke to brighten someone's day. He had a passion for collecting antiques and embraced the great outdoors, finding joy in nature and the activities it offered. His family remembers him for his warm spirit and the laughter he brought into their lives.

He is survived by his current wife Mary F. Cross, his beloved children from his first marriage, Gary Lee (Emily) Cross Jr. of Van Buren, Arkansas, Connie (Shane) Zeleznikar of Afton, Oklahoma, Ronald Bruce Cross of Pahrump, Nevada, Dylan Michael Cross of Salida, Colorado and step-son Christopher Terhune and spouse from Denver, Colorado; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Diana (Dan) Wood, Jackie Nelder, Marty Cross, Brian (Marsha) Cross, and brother-in-law Ron Syock, sister-in-law Mary Cross along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Betty Syrock and his brother Jim Cross.

Cremation has been selected, and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday December 4, 2025 at the Chapel at Homelake Veterans Home in Monte Vista.

In the hearts of those who knew and loved him, Gary Lee Cross will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered for the joy and laughter he brought to all.
