Ezequiel Ramirez, affectionately known to many as El Camello, passed away peacefully at the age of 77, surrounded by family and his favorite Mexican ballads.
Born in Panindícuaro, Michoacán, Mexico on February 27, 1948, Ezequiel brought his family to the United States in pursuit of a better life. He became an integral part of the San Luis Valley's community, where he settled permanently.
Ezequiel was known for his unwavering work ethic, warm presence, and generosity. He made friends easily and was someone others turned to for help, support, or simply a good conversation. A lover of music and celebration, he was happiest hosting gatherings at his home in Alamosa's Waverly neighborhood, where laughter and corridos filled the air.
In retirement, Ezequiel took pride in his gardening and frequently traveled to Rocky Ford to pick up cantaloupes and watermelons. He sold produce, both his own and from other growers, at the Alamosa Farmers' Market and throughout the San Luis Valley, making new friends along the way and becoming a familiar, beloved face in the community.
Above all, he was deeply proud of his family; his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his greatest joy.
Ezequiel is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Felicitas Ramirez, his children:
Marco Ramirez, Maria and Juan Rangel, Leo and KatherineRamirez, Sol and BJ Baumgardner, Chita and Jorge Rangel, Alvaro and Antoinette Ramirez, Adrian and Sarah Ramirez; and Rhonda and Arturo Mendez whom he affectionately considered children; and his nephew Gustavo Valadez Ramirez.
He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren:
Mikayla, Mark, Micole, Vanessa, Jasmin, Luis, Mariana, Brandon, Erica, Karina, Juan, Jackie, Camryn, Tammy, Jeremiah, Eli, Elena, Deon, Shaina, Alex, Lilly, Neriah, Noah, Jaelynn, Edgar, Zeike, Jorge, Jacob, Marissa, Ronnie (d. 2017), Gilbert, Samantha, Manual, Xavier, Adrian, Ashley, Aden, Aaron, Angelica, Remmy, Briseyda; and by his beloved great-grandchildren: Kristopher, Emiliano, Cieana, Paisley, Brantley, Brandon, Sophia, Johnathan, Levi, and Maria.
Ezequiel leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and community. His impact on Alamosa and the surrounding areas will be felt for generations to come. Services for Ezequiel are as follows: The Rosary will be at 9:30am, Mass at 10am at Sacred Heart Church in Alamosa on Saturday, August 16th.
