Ernest Ted Martinez, a caring father, devoted husband, a spoiling grandfather, and hardworking community member, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, at the age of 82. He was born on June 24, 1943, in Villa Grove, Colorado, and lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to his family and work.
In 1968, Ernie married the love of his life Agnes, and together they built a beautiful family in Colorado Springs, where his legacy continues through his children: Ernie (Tammy) Martinez, Jr., Brian (Sadie) Martinez, Elena Hall, grandchildren: Brennan, Isaiah (Jordan), Dean, Dylan (Dilvin), Michael, and Sileste, great grandchildren: Mirajane and Mailynn He also leaves behind siblings, including brothers Leonard and Pete Martinez, and sisters Belcie Maestas, Vicky Cruz, and Bertha Lovato, all of whom will carry his memory forward.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Agnes Martinez, parents: Patricio and Maria Martinez and 9 of his other siblings.
A proud veteran, Ernie served in the Army and was honorably discharged on January 19, 1971. He dedicated over 40 years to the Cement and Mason Union, where his hard work and craftsmanship were respected and valued. In addition to his professional life, he enjoyed the great outdoors, finding joy in hunting, fishing, the thrill of gambling, thrift shopping, and spending time at the flea market. His laid-back demeanor and thoughtful words made a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ernie was a man who truly cherished moments with his children and grandchildren, often sharing stories, laughter, and a deep love that will resonate in their hearts forever.
Funeral services will be held to honor Ernie's life and will be begin at 10:30 am on Saturday November 22 with a Rosary at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Saguache. A Funeral Mass will immediately follow, beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will follow the services in the Chicago Cemetery in Saguache.
Ernie will be dearly missed but will live on in the hearts and stories of all who loved him. May he rest in peace and paradise.
