Claude Silva

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Claude Arnold Silva Jr. on May 9, 2025, in Monte Vista, Colorado. Born on April 19, 1958, in Winnemucca, Nevada, Claude lived a life filled with music, family, and cherished connections. He was 67 years old at the time of his passing.

Claude was a proud graduate of Monte Vista High School, where he distinguished himself as the Drum Major for the Marching Band. At the young age of eight, he faced the profound loss of his father, Lieutenant Colonel Claude Silva Sr., who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Vietnam War. This early experience shaped Claude's resilience and deep appreciation for life, which he carried with him throughout his years.

Following high school, Claude pursued his passion for music at the College of Recording Arts in San Francisco, where he received a Record-Music Industry Diploma. After graduating from the College of Recording Arts, Claude worked several years at the prestigious Boulder Dinner Theater, as a sound engineer, producing the sound and music for the plays and shows. His love for sound and rhythm ultimately led him to become a self-employed DJ, operating his own business, Show Sound. He joyfully provided musical entertainment for countless events, including the Sunshine Festival, proms, weddings, and various celebrations throughout the valley. Claude's talent extended beyond local performers. He mixed sound for notable music artists including Michael Martin Murphey, John McEuen of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and Sly and the Family Stone. His charm and charisma endeared him to many, and he brought joy to others through his work.

In addition to his musical talents, Claude enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He found joy in fishing, biking, and walking, often sharing these moments with family and friends. He had a fondness for watching action and adventure shows and movies as well as select drama shows, and he truly valued time spent during family gatherings and holidays.

Claude is survived by his loving mother, Evelyn Silva-Wright; his son, Cas Silva; his daughter, Rhea Silva; as well as his brothers, David (Cindy), Russell, Steven (Toy), and Kurt Peterson, as well as four nephews, two nieces and all of their respective families. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, sociability, and a remarkable ability to connect with those around him.

He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents, Octaviana and John Silva and Isabel and Eli Lujan.

Cremation was selected and a private family service will be held at a later date. To express condolences to the family, please visit www.mvmortuary.com.
