Betty Gross

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Betty Jane Gross, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, who left this world peacefully on October 16, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on July 15, 1928, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Rudolph and Gustava Guck, who preceded her in death.

Betty lived a full and vibrant life, filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.Betty was the beloved daughter of a family of three children and radiated warmth and kindness throughout her life. In 1951, she married Frank "Wesley" Pepper of Center, Colorado, and together they welcomed four wonderful children: Keith (Gayle) Pepper, Kent (Darla) Pepper, Karleen (Ed) Pepper all of Monte Vista and Kerry (Joette) Pepper, of Mesquite, Nevada.  Tragically, she lost Wesley in 1958, but her strength and resilience shone through as she navigated life as a devoted single mother.

In 1960, Betty found love again when she married Harold Gross, with whom she welcomed another daughter, Karolyn (Val) Duran of Alamosa. Although Harold passed away in 1996, Betty continued to exemplify love and compassion in her life. She also endured the heartbreaking loss of her daughter Karolyn in 2011.Betty spent her final 28 years with her soulmate, LaVern Hart, who brought her a renewed sense of joy and companionship. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her 13 grandchildren: Justin, David, Allison, April, Jennifer, Micah, Isaiah, Aaron, Colbert, Kyla, Summer, Michelle, and Rebecca, along with 25 great-grandchildren who were the light of her life.

Betty dedicated her career to accounting, serving as a skilled bookkeeper in the community she loved. A faithful member of the First Christian Church (now Grace and Mercy Church) in Monte Vista, she became an integral part of her church family. Betty had a zest for life; she loved to travel, having explored nearly every state, except one. In her quiet moments, she found solace in knitting and reading, hobbies that brought her peace and comfort.

Betty will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched with her boundless compassion and unwavering support. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the Monte Vista Cemetery to honor her remarkable life. In addition, a Celebration of Life will follow at a later date, providing her family and friends an opportunity to share stories and cherish the memories they created together.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Monte Vista Volunteer Fire Department, an organization close to her heart.

Betty Jane Gross leaves behind a tremendous legacy of love and kindness that will forever be remembered
