Antonia J.
Lopez
November 20, 1935 – March 14, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Antonia "Tonnie" J. Lopez, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who left us on March 14, 2026. Born on November 20, 1935, in Medanales, New Mexico, Antonia nurtured a life full of love, strength, and belonging, making her home in Monte Vista, Colorado.
Antonia was a dedicated homemaker known for her tenacity and sharp wit. She took great pride in her appearance and was particularly attentive to her hair, reminding all of us of the strength and beauty that resides in self-care. Her passion for gardening was evident in her beautiful marigolds and petunias, and she found immense joy tending to her yard and the loving companionship of her beloved dogs, Fuzzy, Missy, and Kirby.
Antonia had a strong appetite for life, along with delicious hamburger. Antonia was a fountain of wisdom when it came to home remedies, often sharing this knowledge with her family. She was strong-willed, caring, and unapologetically herself, ensuring that loved ones honored their commitments and promises, while her deep devotion to family was unconditional.
Antonia is survived by her cherished children, Merlinda (Charlie) Lopez-Cellura, Emily Lopez, Evan (Melody) Lopez, Carlos (Jackie) Lopez, and Rigo Lopez. She leaves behind her adoring grandchildren: Brandon Sanchez, Carlos Lopez, Levi Velasquez, Bella Lopez, Kaydence Lopez, Zeke Velasquez, and Gilbert Lopez, as well as her precious great-grandchild, Aiden Sanchez. Antonia will forever be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family, all of whom appreciated the love she brought into their lives.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, her devoted husband Carlos A. Lopez, and her siblings: Sadie Quintana, Trinidad "Trinnie" Vaughn, Ramoncito Vigil, Arturo Vigil, and Jose Gumicindo Vigil. Along with her cherished pets that passed on before.
In honor of Antonia's life, a Rosary will be held at 9:30 am on Monday March 23, 2026 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. The Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 am also at the church. Interment will follow the service in the Alamosa Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating the remarkable woman she was and the cherished memories she bestowed upon all of us.
As we reflect on her life, let us hold close the lessons of love, resilience, and the importance of family that she exemplified every day of her remarkable journey. Antonia will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever be etched in our hearts.
